Photo update

Olemme olleet todella kiireisiä muuton vuoksi. Joten tässä on nyt nopea kuvapäivitys siitä, mitä tontilla on tapahtunut.

We've been very busy getting everything ready for the move. So here's a fast photo update of the situation on site.

Bones

Kun jää ylimääräistä laastia, siitä voi tehdä vaikka dinosauruksen luun muotoilemalla hiekkaan muotin!

When you have left over plaster, you can make dinosaur bones with a mold made in the sand!

Cooking hardware

Meillä oli pieni pussillinen vanhoja heloja jotka piti puhdistaa. Pinterestin kautta löytyi keino jota oli ihan pakko kokeilla. Löytyi vanha kattila jota ei enää käytetä, ja ruokasoodaa on aina kaapissa isompi purkki (sillä kun voi puhdistaa liesitason ja uunin, pestä hiukset ja muuta mukavaa). Eli soodaa kattilaan aika runsaasti, puhdistettava hela sekaan ja päälle sen verran vettä että ainekset peittyvät. Kattila hellalle matalalle lämmölle poreilemaan, ei kiehumaan. Puolisen tuntia myöhemmin hela kalastellaan liemestä ja maali lähtee pikkaisen raaputtamalla. Sitten pesu ja öljy pintaan. Aika näppärää!

We had a small bag full of hinges etc. that we needed to clean. Through Pinterest we found a way that we just had to try. We found an old pot we don't use anymore, and I always keep a large jar of baking soda around (since it can be used to clean the stove and oven, washing your hair and other important stuff). So we put a heap of baking soda in the pot, then the metal hardware we needed to clean and topped it off with so much water that it covered the lot. Then we put the pot on the stove on low heat to simmer, not to boil. About half an hour later we fished the metal hardware out and the paint just comes off. Then a quick wash and an oil treatment. Pretty nifty!

Window sills

Jo suunnitellessa oli selvää, että haluamme leveät ikkunalaudat, ja ikkunat sijoitetaan siis vanhaan tapaan suhteellisen lähelle julkisivun pintaa. Tästä kuvasta näkee, kuinka ikkunalaudat nyt alkavat hahmottua. Nämähän ovat siis piharakennuksen ikkunalautoja, joten niihin ei tule mitään ylimääräistä.

Even when I was planning this it was clear that we wanted deep window sills, and that the windows should be close to the surface of the facade. Just like in the old days. This pic shows you how the window sills are coming together. These are the window sills in the additional building, and that is why they are so minimal in design.

Tiling, part 3

Nyt on päästy jo seinien laatoituksiin. Vessassa mennään pienemmillä, 10x10 kokoisilla laatoilla, ja nuo on tarkoitus saumata tummalla saumalla. Pesuhuoneessa taas on ns. subway-kokoinen laatta, ja nuo saumataan vaalealla saumalla. Kummassakin tilassa on sama tummanruskea lattialaatta.

Now we're tiling walls. In the toilet we're using smaller, 10 by 10 cm size tiles, and we're going to use a dark grout with those tiles. In the shower we're using subway-tiles, and these will have a light grout. In both spaces we've got the same dark brown tiled floor.

Painting stuff

Vähän kuvia kalusteiden maalaustöistä. Käytössä on pellavaöljymaali, pohjamaalaus alkuun Ottossonin ohjeiden mukaan.

Some pics of our furniture paint jobs. We're using linseed oil paint, and the primer we're using is diluted according to the guide from Ottosson.

A busy weekend

Vähän kuvia viikonlopulta. Sisäovien karmit, ja osa kalusteista on saanut pohjamaalin pintaan. Vessan ovi on kertaalleen jo maalattu ns. oikealla sävyllä (Ottossonin italialainen vihreä umbra). Halusin mustat sisäovet, mutta noista tulee nyt tummanruskeat, koska se sopi lämpimänä sävynä paremmin muiden meidän käyttämien värien kanssa.

Some pics from our weekend. The doorframes and part of the furniture have gotten a base coat. The door for the toilet has been painted once with the actual color (italian green umbra by Ottosson). I wanted black doors inside, but the doors will be a dark brown instead, because a warmer color looked better with the other colors we´ve used.

Pihalla on lumet kohta sulaneet ja päästään sielläkin tekemään hommia.

Soon the snow has melted in the yard, and we'll be able to get something done there as well.
